Lancelot was both loved and despised by King Arthur although not at the same time. He shared many adventures with Arthur including the quest for the Holy Grail. He was instrumental in ending the war being waged between Arthur and Galehaut by befriending Galehaut and convincing him to surrender. Galehaut in turn was instrumental in convincing Guinevere to return Lancelots affections. This then led to their adulterous affair which, in part,led to the downfall of Camelot.
It was with his son Galahad that he finally completes the quest for the Holy Grail. Galahad along with his cousins Bors and Perceval recover the Grail. But to his dismay he is allowed but a blurry partial glimpse of the chalice due to his adulterous affair with Guinevere.
Upon learning of King Arthurs death and Guinevere’s decision to be a nun, he retired to a hermitage to live out a penitence where he eventually died.
